In the seventies, I – Gilbert Mast, a young water sports enthusiast – had the extraordinary idea of building a sailing yacht myself.

My plan met with incredulous astonishment from my friends. After extensive research and literature studies, I came across a small advertisement in a boating magazine of plans for a self-constructed sailing yacht drawn by the renowned naval architect Peter Ibold, who became known as the designer of the successful Endurance series. With the Odieux 46, he drew for the first time, a round-span and short-keeled ocean-going yacht, based on a technically newly constructed ferrocement hull. This then new and revolutionary construction idea as well as Ibold's elegant design corresponded exactly to my wish list – I was completely thrilled.

At our first meeting in his design office in Paris, we quickly came to an agreement. He designed a ketch version for me based on the Odieux 46 Sloop. This was to become today's Genesis7. At that time, I could not imagine that the construction would take more than half a decade, but what followed were the most beautiful and creative seven years of my life, for which I am very grateful. I dedicated the christening of my "baby" to them: Genesis (Creation) and the 7 for the number of years of construction. I was able to realise the project together with the help of my father, who retired at around that time, as well as generous friends and experts.

In addition, my employer at the time, Sandoz, kindly supported me by providing a warehouse in the middle of the city of Basel for the entire construction period. The project was completed in 1986 with land transport to and successful launching of the yacht in Cap d'Agde in the south of France.

A new era began. During the years that followed, I enjoyed wonderful sailing experiences in the Mediterranean together with many friends and acquaintances. For 18 years now, we have been cruising my favourite area, the Aegean Sea, where Genesis is currently moored and has always been lovingly cared for.

It is with some melancholy that I have decided, due to my age, to find a worthy successor for the Genesis. The following facts & figures will convince you of this unique and tailor-made sailing yacht with class. A unique specimen for connoisseurs and enthusiasts.
